Job Description:

Each day, during your assigned period, you will sign out from study hall and report to the library. You will spend about 10 minutes working with the books, then remain available to help visitors find books, answer questions, and check out.

Duties:

Your duties as a V-Staff member include:
  • Answering questions
  • Helping people find and check out books
  • Scanning and shelving returns
  • Pulling books for reading lists
  • Keeping the shelves and tables neat
  • Assisting with book processing
  • Checking the mail
  • Helping with interlibrary loans
  • Helping with attendance
  • Answering the phone

Requirements:

To qualify for V-Staff you must:
  • Be a Cazenovia High School student
  • Have at least one study hall
  • Commit to covering that period for the entire semester
  • Be passing all your classes
  • Watch the training videos below
  • Be responsible, and able to carry out your duties without prompting
  • Model appreciation for reading
  • Model integrity and respect

Benefits:

Because it takes place during the school day, V-Staff time does not count for community service. However, there are other perks, including:
  • A standing pass to come to the library during your assigned period, even when that period is closed to other study hall students.
  • Experience that may help you get a better work-study job in college (would you rather wash dishes, or work in the library?)
  • The satisfaction of helping others and making the school a better place.
